That's a standard A2 envelope.

In Cricut Design Space, upload the SVG, then click the pink dashed layer and change its operation from Cut to Score. Attach both layers before you send it to the mat.

Cardstock for your envelopes

Envelopes need cardstock that folds without cracking, so I reach for my 67 lb smooth cardstock. A2 and smaller templates fit on letter-size paper, so my 8.5x11 printable cardstock works too. Anything bigger needs a 12x12 sheet.

How to make an envelope with your Cricut

  1. Enter your card size above and pick a fit. Use Roomy for layered or embellished cards.
  2. Download the SVG and upload it to Cricut Design Space. It comes in at the true size, so don't resize it.
  3. Change the dashed layer to Score, then Attach the score and cut layers.
  4. Cut on a StandardGrip mat with the cardstock setting.
  5. Fold the side flaps in, fold the bottom flap up and glue it to the side flaps. Slide your card in and tuck or seal the top flap.

Envelope size FAQ

What size envelope do I need for a 5x7 card?

An A7 envelope, which is 5 1/4 x 7 1/4 inches. That gives you 1/8 inch of room on every side.

What size envelope fits a 4.25 x 5.5 card?

An A2 envelope, 4 3/8 x 5 3/4 inches. A 4.25 x 5.5 card is what you get when you fold a letter-size sheet in half and then in half again, or cut a 12x12 sheet down.

How much bigger should an envelope be than the card?

About 1/4 inch bigger in both directions, so 1/8 inch on each side. Go up to 3/8 inch for layered cards, cards with embellishments, or shaker cards.

What size cardstock do I need to make an envelope?

It depends on the card. The template above tells you whether it fits on 8.5x11, 12x12, or needs a 12x24 mat. An A2 envelope fits on letter-size cardstock; an A7 needs a 12x12 sheet.

Can I cut this envelope template on my Cricut?

Yes. Download the SVG, upload it to Design Space (it imports at true size), change the pink dashed layer to Score, attach the layers, and cut on a StandardGrip mat.

Do square envelopes cost more to mail?

Yes. The US Postal Service adds a non-machinable surcharge to square envelopes, so they need extra postage.
