Four monsters, one 12x12 sheet each, and a pile of candy that needs somewhere to go.

Boo bags are my favorite kind of Halloween project. They are fast enough to make a whole batch in an afternoon, cute enough that people actually keep them, and cheap enough that you can hand out a dozen without thinking twice. I made these four on my Cricut Explore 5 with a scoring stylus and my favorite cardstock glue, and every single color came out of one variety pack.

Your favorite cardstock glue. I reach for a liquid glue on the tiny face pieces and a tape runner on the big flat panels
Candy, small toys, or a gift card to fill them

Meet the four boo bags

The mummy

White smooth for the bag body, then wrapped in strips of sublimation-capable white glitter and ivory so the bandages catch the light without going full sparkle. Black eyes, and a mouth built from an olive green outline, a pink inner, and little white teeth.

The jack-o-lantern

A black smooth bag with an orange glitter pumpkin on the front, a cut-out black face, a brown stem, and a curling evergreen glitter vine. This is the one that photographs best, hands down.

The vampire

Electric purple body, black glitter hair, big white eyes, and two white fangs. That purple sheet is in the variety pack for exactly this reason, and this is the bag kids grab first.

The Frankenstein

Olive green with black glitter hair and mirror silver bolts on the sides of his head. The bolts are small and they are worth the extra minute. They are what makes him read as Frankenstein instead of a generic green monster.

Step by step: how to make Halloween boo bags

Step 1: Upload the SVG files

Open Cricut Design Space, click Upload, and drop in the SVG files. Each bag is its own file, so you can make one design at a time or batch all four.

Step 2: Check your sizing

Each bag is built to cut from a single 12"x12" sheet, unless you want a smaller favor bag. If you do shrink it, shrink the face pieces by the same percentage or the eyes and mouth will not line up.

Step 3: Attach your score lines

This is the step people skip, and then they wonder why the folds look chewed. In Design Space, select the score lines, change them from cut to score and then select bag body together and click Attach in the bottom right. Drop your scoring stylus in Clamp A and your blade in Clamp B, and your Cricut will score and cut in one pass.

Step 4: Cut everything first

Do all your cutting before you start gluing. Match each color in Design Space to its sheet from the variety pack, load your mat, and go. If you see any drag on the glitter sheets, switch to the glitter cardstock material setting or add a second pass.

Step 5: Fold and glue the bag body

Fold along every score line while the piece is still flat and crisp. Glue the side tab first, then the bottom panel. Let the body dry before you add anything to the front so the panels do not shift under your fingers.

Step 6: Build the faces

Work from the biggest piece down to the smallest: eyes before pupils, mouth outline before the inner mouth before the teeth. A liquid glue and a toothpick will save you on the teeth and on Frankenstein's bolts.

Step 7: Add the accents

Lay the mummy wraps on at slight angles rather than parallel, and let a few hang over the edge so you can trim them flush for a cleaner line. Add the pumpkin stem and vine last, and save Frankenstein's bolts for the very end so you can line them up with his eyes.

Step 8: Fill them and hand them out

The handle is sturdy enough to hang on a doorknob, which makes these perfect for a porch drop. Fill, deliver, and try not to keep one for yourself. (I keep one every year.)

Make it your own

The four designs are just a starting point. A few swaps I like:

Pastel Halloween: bubblegum pink and salmon bodies with black glitter accents
All glitter: cut every bag body from glitter cardstock and keep the faces smooth so they still read clearly
Classic orange and black: skip the monster faces and use just the pumpkin on all four
Not-scary version: swap the fangs and the stitched mouth for smiles and you have a treat bag for the little ones

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Cricut Explore 5?

No. That is what I used, but these cut on any Cricut machine, and they work on a Silhouette too.

Can I make these without a scoring stylus?

You can. Fold against a metal ruler or run a bone folder along each fold line instead. The scoring stylus just gets you a crisper edge with less fuss, especially on the glitter sheets.

What weight cardstock works best?

Anywhere from 65 lb to 80 lb. Our 67 lb smooth solid-core holds a fold well and does not crack at the score line, and the 250 gsm glitter sheets are great for the faces and accents.

How big are the finished bags?

Each one cuts from a single 12"x12" sheet and folds into a handled bag that holds a generous handful of candy. Plenty of room for a fun-size stash or a small toy.

How long does the whole set take?

Cutting all four takes about half an hour. Assembly runs roughly 15 minutes per bag, so you can knock out the full set in an afternoon.

Can I sell the bags I make?

The SVG bundle is licensed for personal use only, so these are for your own crafts and gifts. You may not resell the file or use the designs for commercial production.
